The annual Quran memorization competition began on the 7th of Ramadan 1447 AH (February 24, 2026) at the Muhammad Bashir Al-Maghribi Hall in the Islamic Cultural Center in Kigali. One hundred and forty-eight (148) contestants (97 males and 51 females) are participating, divided into nine categories based on their memorization levels, ranging from memorizing two parts of the Quran to memorizing the entire Quran.
In addition to the General Director of the Center, the opening ceremony was attended by the Head of the Council of Sheikhs, representing the Mufti of Rwanda, the Head Teacher of the secondary school, the supervisor of the Quran memorization center at the Islamic Cultural Center, the Deputy Imam of the mosque, the head and members of the judging panel, the contestants, and students of the Center.
The competition will conclude on the 25th of Ramadan with a closing ceremony to announce the results and distribute prizes to the winners.
